MERSEN POWER DISTRIBUTION BLOCKS Power Distribution Blocks provide a safe convenient way of splicing cables, splitting power into a variety of smaller circuits, or providing a fixed junction tap point. Power blocks are available with single or dual primary (line side) connections and up to 30 secondary (load side) connections. They are available in three convenient sizes : mini size blocks with terminals rated to carry up to 240 amps, intermediate size blocks with terminals rated to carry up to 460 amps, and large size blocks rated to carry up to 1520 amps. INSULATORS Power block insulators are manufactured of virtually unbreakable glass filled polycarbonate in three sizes. All blocks meet or exceed the voltage clearance and creepage requirements of UL and CSA for general industrial control equipment. ADDER POLES All three sizes have optional adder poles, which snap onto 1,2 or 3 pole blocks and lock together to form as many poles as required. Adder poles with a variety of terminations can be combined to match special wire size or application requirements. CONNECTORS All power block connectors are machined from solid bars of copper or aluminum. Finished connectors of either material are tin plated to retard corrosion. Power blocks with aluminum connectors accept either aluminum or copper conductors, while power blocks with copper conn- ectors accept only copper conductors. There are three types of connectors available: Box, Stud and Quick- Connect. Box connectors, easily the most popular type, accommodate one conductor per opening and are available in a wide variety of sizes which accept wire as small as #14AWG and as large as 1000Kcmil. Terminals are not needed. Power blocks with stud connectors and combination stud/box connectors are available with 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" studs. Stud connections require the conductor to be terminated with a ring or spade type terminal before being secured to the stud. Quick-Connects (1/4" tab or spade terminals) are available in the mini size power block only and provide rapid connections for conductors carrying up to 20 amps. SAFETY COVERS Clear polycarbonate see-through safety covers are available for each size power block to provide finger safe protection and improved insulation properties. Covers are available for each pole and may be installed with mounting screws provided. A three-pole block will require 3 covers. With the cover in place, service entrance ratings for the intermediate and large size blocks can be obtained. Power block Safety Cover Recommended mounting ----------- ------------ -------------------- 62000&63000 08530 #10 (.190) screws 66000&67000 08570 #10 (.190) screws 68000&69000 08590 1/4" (.250) screws MOUNTING Each pole of each power block is equipped with 2 mounting slots, each block should be secured with at least two fasteners sized as above.
